Lots of HTIB speakers come in 4 ohm. I'm looking across the room at a set now.

Yah apparently its not the ohms that matters so much with HTIB its the speaker sensitivity... Read the link I posted a sec ago..

That's why I'm looking at a real amp, that'll be able to deliver a hell of a lot better then most receivers can to the speakers.

Going to go ahead with the order. There shouldnt be a difference in the 3.5MM to RCA cable adapters out there, as in I don't need to waste money with the gold plated crap right?

For the minimal price difference I always go gold plated. Usually the cables/parts are just better overall. Order from Monoprice if you can wait a bit. Thats the only place I'll get cables and adapters or Radio Shack/The Source if I'm in a hurry. I'm a little anal like that though, especially when using higher end equipment. Sound is always restricted by the weakest link.

Very painless ordering through them, I'll create a thread soon to let you know my experience with them from start to finish.

So far it's been shipped already via FedEx ground (they only ship with FedEx)

Sounds good. I look forward to seeing what you have to say. I've had nothing but positive experiences with them.

It arrived today, took less then a week to get here (very impressed) from the states.

I may need a separate channel outputting soundcard seeing as my onboard with stereo plugged in (lower end 3.5mm to 2 RCA) is playing back both channels on each speaker (aka no isolated left or right).

Well, after looking for hours I settled on the following for my audio needs

Newegg.com - SPDIF coaxial to 5.1/2.1 Channel AC3/DTS Audio Decoder Gear Surround Sound Rush
It's an audio decoder, allowing me to feed it optical from my onboard sound card and have it output to each of the 6 channels separately (no point in going 7.1 or trying to find one as my amp is 5 channel).

Unfortunately they only ship to the states, so I bought the EXACT same one from Deal Extreme for 53$ (and a few other things) and chose their express shipping. I also order 6 3-foot digital coaxial audio cables to run from the audio decoder to the amp/sub woofer. The reason I went with 3 feet is the fact I have a rather long optical cable so I can keep the decoder near the sub/amp.

That's a little strange as it shouldn't be doing that. There should be no problem with a 3.5mm TRS and have it separate the audio correctly to rca. Maybe it's the wrong kind of splitter or it's been wired wrong.

Edit: Well at least you have a solution in place. I'm sure you are dying to test everything out. Hope you are a patient person :)

Edit 2: Yeah, sounds like you have 3.5mm to dual stereo rca instead of mono. Do you have any other splitters kicking around to try?

I don't have any splitters and well ultimately the route I've chosen should work out for me. Comes in cheaper then a high end sound card, which above 120$+ is the premium for the (to me) useless headphones amp.

I have the right cable, I've used a mono splitter too to the same results. I'm going to suffer through both channels on my L/R until everything else arrives.
