Default 6870 HDMI VS dedicated sound card

I have a HTPC connected to a Denon amp via a Sony TV.
I used the HDMI connection PC (AMD 6870) -> TV
and digital link from TV -> receiver with a 5.1 speaker setup.

Would there be any benefit switching to a dedicated sound card ? sound quality wise.

Thanks

If you use a digital out from the sound card, nope. If, however, you plug it into your receiver using analog connections (ie. the red/white cables), then it depends on how good your Denon amp is.

OK, so using the HDMI connection is the way to go then ?
That's good to hear (no pun intended)
The amp is a 2310i Denon, it is a couple years old but still sounds nice.

I was just wanting to make sure I wasn't shorting myself on sound quality.

Thank you Hacksaw907
