Alright, looking up the official wording from Intel on the board, it indeed has a 5V VCC, along with a Ground and signal. I guess whatever adapters they are selling on amazon are incorrect knock-offs.

That should work, he'd just have to pop the pins out of the 4-pin plug and put them on the board manually.

You can depin and repin if necessary and that is exactly what he needs. And it'll fit into a padded envelope!
