NAD do make good stuff although a bit on the ugly side haha. They have had issues with some of their 5.1 receivers though so that's something to consider. It's also very much out of his price range. For mid to low priced receivers I've always had good luck with Yamaha. Back in the day they were able to handle 2ohm loads and were bullet proof. I used to run a pair of EV's with a Yamaha with no problem. A little tip, if you can't decide between a Sony, Pioneer, Yamaha etc as they have all the features you want and it's in the same price range. Pick the heaviest one as it will probably have the better toroidal transformer and other parts.
