Default Sound car to record singing

Hey guys
My girlfriend is into singing (she takes classes and all)...

She'd like to be able to record herself when she practices.

So I thought giving her some sort of sound card could be cool for xmas !

Her bday just passed and I gave her a nice set of 2.1 speakers (logitech z623) to replace her tin cans

What kind of equipment would be needed to be able to record singing ? Do you need a special mic ? What kind of sound card and software I am looking to for recording, editing, playback, etc

thanks alot

Get a decent mic and a preamp, most onboard soundcards will do well enough in terms of quality. If you still have money to blow, add a soundcard. As for software, there is plenty of good open source stuff out there.

Pricing seems fairly good for an entry level setup into pro audio, but I've never used either brand so I can't comment on that.
