Recommend a noise cancelling headphones

Big trip coming soon and I would like to have a not so expensive noise cancelling headphones. Budget will be around $200. TIA.

Why not get a good pair of IEMS? Westone with foamies (and Shure's IIRC) both provide over 20dba of noise reduction. IIRC the triple flanges provide even more noise reduction (IIRC 24-25dba). I shot with my Westone's (with triple flanges) in my ears with no ringing afterwards. Admittedly they were the closest thing at hand...next to my shotgun that is... and wouldnt have been my first choice...but the black squirrels were pissing me off that day.

I think you can grab a pair of ER4P/S for that price these days. They are one of the BEST for isolation, and they sound quite good!

It will be a very long flight, crossing the Pacific that's why I like the headphones. But I'd consider an IEMS if comfortable enough.

I'd definitely spring for some IEM's. Not only will you get great sound-quality, but you'll get excellent sound-isolation, granted you have the right buds that fit your ears properly. I suggest foam buds, even if you have to buy them separately. Foam is softer (more comfortable) and conforms nicely once inside the ear (superior isolation).

As for the IEM's themselves, my suggestion is the Nuforce NE-7M's. On eBay right now for $40 plus $11 shipping, which is about half of what I paid for mine about a year ago. Shipped from Taiwan though, not sure how much time you have.

I use Etymotic MC5's (IEM's known to feel like ear rape) quite often and have to say that with the altitude changes pretty much all IEM's simply get too uncomfortable. Swallowing a lot and/or shifting your jaw will shift them around your ear quite a bit and it's really unpleasant.

I'd look at Sennheiser's noise canceling offerings as they were meant to be used on planes (talk through features and whatnot) and I've heard good things about them. (PXC250, MM450, etc.) Most of the MSRP's will be out of your budget, but the street price on most of these should be under $250.

I used my Sleek Audio SA6 last time on a trip back to China..wasn't too bad in terms of pressure since the tips on the SA6 feel like a gift from jesus.

The MC5 suggested above is a great pair for starting out, but as ilya said..it's best to find a friend who has triple flange IEMs first to try it out, since triple flange is NOT for everyone . Foam is a great alternative but tends to alter the sound signature (doesn't matter for most people though ).

Also...I forget to mention but you can definitely check out the Fischer Audio DBA-02 or Brainwavz B2 (same OEM design). They are relatively deep inserting with double flange tips that are fairly comfortable.

If you're open to using headphones though...my first recommendation would be the HD280 from sennheiser. DAT ISOLATION is one of the best I have heard in full size cans.
