Half Height PCI Card
 
What would be a good card that is half height to put into my htpc that can have optical out.

If you're thinking of the Xonar DX, the D1 is identical in every way except it doesn't have a PCI to PCI-E bridge chip. :bleh: In fact, audio quality on the D1 could arguably be better since the DX is a native PCI card.

nope the board i have has 1 pci-e slot which is taken up by the gpu. leaves 1 pci slot left.

Yeah the DG should work, wont be stellar sound though. But then again after MIR's you can pick one up for $10-15, so for the money it might be worth a try.

If it's only being used for optical output, it really doesn't matter. Digital is digital.

The only thing more expensive cards offer are things like DTS Connect or Dolby Digital Live which are just technologies to upconvert stereo to "5.1" which IMO never quite sounds right.

I have one here that I bought for the headphone out but dont use it anymore since moving to this usb headset, shipping would be about the same as just buying new though I think Curt but if you want it, you know where to find me.:thumb:
