Default New sound card?

Hi guys,

I currently have an old Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer (PCI) card installed on my rig. It used to work fine but recently I have been encountering problems whereby I'll get no sound when I turn on my computer. Only a complete shutdown and reboot will bring back the sound and that's getting annoying. It doesn't happen often enough yet for it to be a complete nuisance, but I am starting to think about getting a replacement.

I don't want to use the onboard sound (Asus P7P55D Pro), so that means I'll have to get a new sound card. Recommendations for one that's <$100? I do listen to a fair bit of music and also quite a bit of gaming using Logitech Z2300 speakers (2.1 channel).

Thanks!

My vote would be for the Asus Xonar DX. It is about as good as you can get for under $100.

Go for Asus Xonar DX 7.1, thats what i have.

So much better then my previous Creative Sound Blaster 5.1. Great equilizer settings and delivers really clear audio.

Just be aware, that it needs power to run, so the same power connector as for a floppy drive must be plugged in at the back. They supply a molex adapter just in case!
