Default Rogers remote control

Greetings, I have a small audio problem I have failed to resolve with my home theatre. I'm trying to use my rogers remote for my master volume. I used to be able to do it with my standard settop after I preset the volume on my receiver. I currently have my HD box connected to my tv by hdmi and audio out from my tv to my receiver with optical. The volume bar on my rogers remote goes up and down but no change in volume. Is there a stupid little setting on my rogers remote that I'm missing? Does anyone else have this configuration? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Few ways to do it, you can disable volume control on your rogers top box and have your remote control the receiver volume, or you could set it to a fixed volume on your receiver and only change the Rogers setting. The latter might not work so well as most televisions can't control the volume through the optical output.

Do you have the reciever set up on the universal remote? If so what you want is "Global Volume Lock".

PG 14 of the remote manual for mine, but it looks like you might have a different box than I do (I don't have these ones) http://www.rogershelp.com/DigitalCab...ry.php?id=YV-G .

ilya has the right idea though. You want to set the remote up for your reciever, and then set the remote to use the reciever volume control for all programmed devices.

Should really consider a mid-range Harmony though ;)

Works far better than those Rogers ones. And makes life so much simpler, especially if you have guests over.

That's what I thought. I wasn't using optical on my last setup.
