USB sound question

hi guys, planning to buy a gamin headset, but I don't want the mess of those 3.5 connectors.
Is a USB port going to deliver a proper sound quality with an O.B. card?
Are there sound cards with USB output?

USB output is digital, and the signal is converted by the DAC in the USB device. It depends on how good the DAC is for people to judge the quality, as well as the quality of the headset itself.

So no, USB will not give you better sound quality most of the time if you have a dedicated sound card. And no, there are no soundcards that output through USB as I know, since it doesn't make sense to do so.

The point is that I want to know whether it's worth investing in a quality USB headset when I don't know which quality the USB will give...

I wasn't aware 2 3.5mm jacks was considered a mess though..

About being an audiophile, the problem is that I am one...
And I prefer USB because I have a hub on the keyboard with both connections, but the keyboard itself is USB :P

If you are an audiophile then you really shouldnt be using either USB headsets or onboard sound (unless you are doing optical out to a receiver). You can notice the difference, believe me.

usb headphones are ok, nothing more,nothing less. so unless you shell out a ton of cash? they wont be phenomenal. regular ones in the 100 dollar range are ok'ish, from what ppl around here say :)

The thing is that my reciever died and I'm considering of moving my music stuff to the pc, so just want to know the limitations.
