Problem comes down to what GPU and what resolution you game at. If you have a mid range card, then there's absolutely no point upgrading your. If you own a high end card, then you shouldn't have cheaped out on the CPU in the first place

Forgot to update that. It's two GTX285s now. Still they're used for folding and space heating, not so much gaming anymore

I was just being silly.....I'm just tired of using this damned Athlon for some reason; guess I've been reading too much about new processors. BTW, I have a 5830, so, yep, I'm mid range.

I wouldn't bother. Save up for a more dramatic change. Constant upgrading is not the way to go

I recently found that one of the old dells that I have lying around has a PCI sound card in it. Do you guys think that it would be worth salvaging it and then going through the inevitable problems of finding drivers, as I have no idea what sort of card it is other than my dad installed it about 8 years ago.

The cards I've found in old dells are always old soundblasters. The one I tried worked very well with drivers (windows has them). But I wouldn't rate them over integrated sound these days
