Switch between headphones and speakers?

If I have the speakers plugged in and then plug in the headphones the speakers are muted. The only way to get the speakers to work again is by unplugging the headphones. Is there a way I can I can switch between headphones and speakers like you can on the ST\STX? Im using a creative card currently. This card does have separate headphone and speaker ports but I am assuming they both use the same signal on the card. If I can't switch between them is there a way to stop the cans from muting the speakers? It's very annoying having to unplug and plug in the cans any time I want to use them.

You could purchase a 3.5mm splitter and just split the speaker output and not use the dedicated headphone jack. That should stop it from detecting a device being plugged/unplugged.

Not really the solution I was looking for sadly. :c

This is a good choice if you can get your hand one one.
