Default Sound card suggestions

Hello Everyone,

I'm currently using an old X-FI Xtreme Music card and was wondering if it might be a good time to upgrade. I'm running Windows 7 64, using Razer Makos (I know, I know, but they were on sale really cheap at NCIX at the time ) and occasionally using some TurtleBeach X41 headphones for late night sessions. That being said, I could probably save my money if there isn't all that big a difference between the card generations.

I've heard a lot about the Xonar series but wasn't sure how they were for gaming, which is what I do primarily (BC2, SC2 etc.). As an aside, it might be nice to have an optical port to use with the X41's instead of leaving them the way I have them setup at the moment.

I wasn't sure if one of the newer x-fi's, an auzentech or an asus card would be higher recommended. Just thought I'd see if any of you might have some suggestions or experience with some of these newer cards.

Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've always used Creative cards but wasn't sure if they were still the way to go these days with more competition out there. I've heard complaints about Creative's drivers but to be honest I've yet to experience an issue with them (although I went from XP to 7 so I missed any issues that may have shown up with Vista).

The X-Fi titanium (even the non-HD) seems like it might be pretty capable. Guess I'd better get to reading! If anyone else has any suggestions, feel free to post :)
