My System Specs

Default Midrange [non audiophile] 2.1 speakers

Hey guys, I'm looking for midrange 2.1 speakers to use for my computer for general use like music/youtube/movie/games whenever I'm not using my headphones or when I need to share the sound in the room.
I've done a bit of research and here's what I have so far:
  1. Logitech Z4 [used for $35]
  2. Logitech Z523 [59.99 refurb or around 99 new]
  3. Altec Lansing VS4121 [61.99]
So my price range is probably around 60-80 bucks and I do have a Futureshop $50 I can use as well to bring the price down to 60-80 so like up to $130 at FS.

Thanks!

Honestly bro, I think you should gather a few more pennies for the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 set (Don't be intimidated). With a good set of speakers you will appreciate your music, movies and games so much more and makes for an overall better experience. These are not audiophile quality, these speakers are definitely mainstream and worth the money.

Hello impruv,

I have the Logitech Z523 and wish I had saved for better quality speakers. The bass driver is only about five inches. I managed to get the Z523s at Staples price matched for $99 with taxes included.

A few of the HWC members liked the Edifier S330D 2.1 speakers http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...2418&sku=27404

If you are willing to look at 2,0 speakers the Studiophile AV 20 - Portable Desktop Speaker System (lowest price atm Buy M-Audio [9900-52266-00] M-AUDIO Studiophile AV20 Desktop 2.0 Speaker System 20W RMS Black) are the little brother to the M-Audio AV 40 that have a fair bit of respect.

The M-Audio AV 40 have an ungodly price at this time (normally go for $120 - $150 cdn).

I have used PriceCanada.com and Shopbot to look up the best prices.

I hope this information helps.

haha, honestly I really don't have room to put the big sub's like the promedia and z2300.

If this was for my home I was already looking at something like the Edifier 330d but I was thinking for home I might as well start building with the av40's and then eventually pick up a sub seperately.

That's the only reason I'm cheaping out for the 4 months of just school. Just very limited space and not much time to just 'enjoy' the music.

But perhaps I'll shell out for the Edifiers

Since you're still using your onboard soundcard, I'd personally go for the cheapest solution - a Z4 used set. Check the condition and see if the remote spent most of his time falling on the floor or sleeping on the table. Nice buy, with weaker satellites then a Z3 or Z2300 imho.
