My System Specs

Default USB vs. jack-type headsets

While reading a news item about the latest USB headset, I was struck by this question:

Do USB headsets make use of a discrete sound card's output? I've always bought headsets with jacks to plug into my sound cards, but if a decent gaming USB headset reproduced the sound output by my Xonar, I might try a set. One cable vs. two kinda thing. Where as if it uses it's own device, I'd probably skip it.

No. USB headsets use their own DACs.
