NO THE SB IS NO LONGER THE BEST GAMING SOUND CARD, AND IT HASN'T BEEN THE BEST FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW.

IF YOU WANT THE BEST, TRY OUT THE ASUS XONAR D2X

Best gaming sound card would most likely still be creative, it's debatable at least, i'd get an auzentech branded card if i chose creative.

My reasoning is full compatibility with eax beyond 3.0, not that it's such a big deal but it's still there, also i see quite a few talk about cmss with headphones and how they can't live without it, that and the onboard xram, again not that many use it but it's still there. Beyond that it's pretty even really, you can also swap out the op amps on a lot of the auzentech cards as well, not sure about Asus.

Asus is a very good card as well and might be better suited for music, i dunno, personally i think creative still has a slight edge in gaming and it is still very good for music and media as well.

Personally i have been pleased with the quality and stability of my Prelude.

i haven't bought a creative product in over 5 years. Go with an auzentech card and you won't be disappointed.

I agree with both and with auzentech as well. Creative are out of the game on almost every of their product for a little while now.

WHY DO YOU NEED A SOUNDCARD?!

Ok seriously, integrated audio has come a long way and if you're just listening to music, stick with integrated. Now if you have a $300 speaker setup, then it's a no brainer to go with a sound card. If it was me, the sound card I'd choose would be one from the ASUS Xonar. Which one? I don't know as I haven't done my research. Though they appeal to me more than Creative's lineup.

You are so very wrong. But in any case, he did clearly state that he's looking for a gaming sound card.

Ah I missed that gaming part.

Still don't see the need for a sound card if he's just a gamer. But to each his own.
