My System Specs

Default Help me pick some 'phones

Just checking out NCIX's new sale today and I have to say it's one of the better ones I've seen in a while. Lots of stuff I'm tempted to buy! They've got that new Kingston 64GB SDD for 150 which is a pretty sweet price for an SSD of that size. I've also got a 1.5TB Green drive sitting in my cart from last sale. Damn so much stuff I want to buy. But anyways, I noticed the HD555's are on sale for 125 and I hear they are some pretty decent headphones. Now, I also see that the PC350's are on for 129 and I'd like a to use for gaming on my PC. Currently I'm using some PC151's which I'm sure you know arent the greatest sound quality, although it's not like they're terrible... Also my speakers are pretty crappy as well so I've never really owned a decent sound output for my PC! So I'm wondering if I should grab the HD555's or the PC350 since they've got a mic. I'd mostly be using for gaming on my PC but I do intend on picking up an electronic drum kit sometime soon so I'd most likely be using the headphones I pick up for that as well. The HD555's are open cans vs PC350 closed. I'm just really unsure of what to do here and some advice would be helpful. I'm guessing the responses are going to be positive for the HD555's so if I were to pick those up I'd have to pick up some sort of mic that I could pin to my shirt or something for gaming, cause I'm not going to be putting my PC151's around my neck for the mic and have the HD555's on my head for sound! That would be annoying... Although I already do mostly just stick the PC151 around my neck to use the mic and just use the PC speakers for sound. So help?

I was thinking the same thing as you, decided to go for the HD 555 since they can be used with other things then a computer and not look like an idiot!

And Newegg.ca has the almost exact same deal as NCIX ... ordered them monday and they matched the price, so you don't need to rush your decision.

I would go for the HD555s over the PC350, though you could probably get a better set of headphones for your money if you look around. If you just want something that's 'good enough' and will provide a noticeable improvement over what you've got, then the 555s would be fine.

Such as.... ? Also how much noise can be heard from the audio bleeding coming from the HD555. Like if you have it on medium is it pretty noticeable in the room around you?

Audiotechnica ATH-AD700, Alessandro MS-1, JVC HA-RX900 (according to some people). Although it's a little more difficult to get your hands on one of them in Canada. I had to jump through a few hoops to get my ATH-AD700s, and I ended up having them shipped to a friend in the US who then shipped them to me. But if you can find a way to get yourself a pair for a reasonable price (I found a refurb pair for $65 USD, although unfortunately the deal is no longer available), it's well worth it.

Found some in Canada. So what about ATH-AD700 vs SRH840s

Pick up one of these clip-on mics, I can attest that it works ok for gaming/VOIP. NCIX.com - Buy Zalman ZM-MIC 1 Microphone - ZM-MIC1 In Canada.

Wait for it to go on sale, you can usually get for $5-6.
