Can anyone recommend some free audio editing software?

Audacity?

Edit - Found out about Cooledit Pro. Adobe bought it in 2003, and it became Adobe Audition.

I use audacity at home, I find it very similar to cooledit pro which I use at our campus radio station.

Definitely try out Audacity. It is dead easy to use and free.

I also use Audacity whenever I need that kind of thing. Works great for me, and for friends/family I've recommended it to.
