My System Specs

Default AuzenTech X-PLOSION Cinema 7.1

I'm in the market for a soundcard for my HTPC, I really don't have any experience with them so am looking for opinions ..The pc won't be for gaming just music and movies with logitch z-5500's ATM..
Would this card be a huge improvement over onboard sound ?

Will you be using connecting your PC's soundcard output to a A/V receiver, or straight through to speakers?

I have used this card, and it's great as an HTPC sound card - beats the hell out of onboard - but if you use it in conjunction with an A/V receiver, it's kinda overkill.

Nevertheless, it's a great card, and this is shameless advertising, but I could sell you mine for a decent price.

Let me know!

I will not be using a A/V receiver ,I will go straight to z-5500's via SPDIF.

I use a A/V receiver so I'm not so sure how different the digital processing is compared to the z-5500's. But I use the on board digital coax and use some pretty good speakers for music and can tell you the sound is great. I've been told that if you're using digital out then there is no improvement using soundcrads, and I haven't been able to find any info that would suggest otherwise with the exception of some possible additional sound effects while gaming.

I picked up an X-plosion Cinema card not too long ago. Running to an AV receiver over toslink with DTS Interactive enabled which encodes all multichannel sound into a DTS signal. That's how I use it, anyway, and it's great. I don't have anything analog to test, but from what I know, this card has upgraded removable chips pre-installed for decent analog sound as well.

You might be able to go cheaper, but I'm happy with the money I spent.

I also have this card. I haven't yet connected to my receiver yet, but I'm very happy with it. Drivers are available for windows7.
