Force applications to use certain audo device?
I have 2 sound cards in my computer, the onboard and a creative one, now i want my creative card to be my primary but just want to use my onboard for my headset and microphone.
Does anyone know how to make certain applications use specific devices, especially windows live messenger, which seems to have zero options availble towards configuring audio devices.
Actually it's easy - in your windows control panel you have already set your preferred audio device which is your creative. The way you set up your individual apps to use a given audio device is through the application configuration itself. Most audio apps I've seen have an option with a drop box to select audio out and audio in.
Example: In yahoo messenger you use actions -> call setup..... From there you choose which device's microphone you want to use, then which audio card you want to use.......If you have more than 1 properly installed audio devices, you will get a drop box with many choices - the settings you make will affect only the application you are setting up and not the windows system itself.
For windows live messenger same thing - look for the option area where you configure your microphone and speakers, there's there.
With my creative sound card I used one of these

Plug this in to your green line out on your sound card then plug in your headphones and speaker line into the female ends. Your pink mic plug goes into your sound card as usual. The only drawback is that you need a volume control on the headphones themselves. This setup has always worked for me.
