Default Value going PCI sound card to PCIe?

Is there any point in upgrading from a PCI sound card to one with a PCIe interface?

Just let's say considering they were the same sound card?

I'd say no, not for the same card. I wouldn't anyways. Heck, the sound card is pretty much the only thing left on the pci bus these days. Never gets saturated.

Not really, unless your PCI_E slots are in better locations than the PCI slot. Or if the vendor is going to stop supporting the PCI card.

I heard that the way the PCI-E bus talks to the Northbridge causes some noise. I still have my PCI card and it's great. I wouldn't worry about it unless you don't have room for it anymore.

Desktop sound cards are in no danger of saturating the PCI bus, so PCI-E alone isn't a reason to upgrade, unless slot positioning/availability is an issue. If it was a brand-new build, I think I'd probably go for a PCI-E card, but not for an upgrade.

I also agree with whats being said here. There isn't any real value of moving from a PCI to PCIE clearly most manufacturers sell both. IMO it was a huge marketing move for companies like "Creative, etc" to get you to buy another soundcard. I was and still am in a situation where the location of my PCI slots chokes off my videocard from air by blocking the fan, therefore I had no choice but to move to a PCI-E soundcard.

Regards,

EE

I have deleted the spam and removed the reference in EE's reply.

I still use PCI based GPUs on 2 computers and they produce images and videos without slowdown even Blu-rays. Let alone sound cards.

I moved to a PCI-E recently to combat the air choked off video card problem. And now, if needbe, I can install aftermarket cooling on my video card without having to worry about it fitting.
