Default ASUS DX Crackling / Poping/Static noise

I installed my sound card. When new sound process starts or stop, especially when it starts, at the very beginning, there is this really annoying "tic" sound for a tiny fraction of a second. Once the sound or tune is running, the sound is perfect. Any clues?:help:

Windows XP SP2 all updates
Asus Xonar DX with newest beta drivers 5.12.8.1764
Gigabyte DS3L rev2
BIOS F9a (latest revision)
CPU E8400 no overclock
EVGA 8800GT Video Card
Antec Earthwatts 500W Sonata 3
Seagate 7200.12 500Gb Hard Drive

Thanks,
JES

P.S. It seems that any processes when it stop makes this faint click. If I try to record it through a program like audacity, when I play the same small wave sound (Windows default) I don't hear the click. I will try to record it with my Sansa Clip, cya later.

Did this happen with your older drivers?

make sure you disable the HD sound or what ever sound device in the bios.

and have you done a driver sweep of the old onboard sound drivers?

X-Fi would give you EAX5 in games if you use it. I personally haven't noticed any difference since getting my Xonar in games, so I don't find that I need EAX5.
Xonar emulates EAX 5.0 via software, here's a good test review:

In fact I just did a whole new XP Sp2 installation since I had to replace my Hard Drive (Seagate Firmware issue). I never installed the Realtek Audio drivers. And the "Azalia" sound was disabled in BIOS.

I tried to move my card to another PCIe slot but no luck, the other slots don't have enough room to accommodate the card.

Ronstick -->As for the ASUS divers I ran only the newest one, I didn't tried the old one.

For a fraction of a second, I wouldn't worry about it. I am using the Xonar as well and I have the occasional sound distort after an audio feed is discontinued, no biggie, it doesn't affect anything. The Xonar is a great value, and a superior card to the X-FI.

have you resolved your Xonar issues? curious, i'm thinking of moving from my x-fi xtrememusic to the Xonar DX.

I play tf2 mostly, some fallout 3, l4d, and listen to music
