Default Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 headphones

After a fair amount of dd on this site and Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio - Powered by vBulletin

I ordered an Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 from Beach Camera yesterday. Total cost was $95, which included shipping, which I thought was a screaming deal.

I know these headphones don't require an amp but I was wondering what impact you think a small amp would have on their performance?

Not enough to justify the cost, considering you had value in mind when buying the headphones.

I bet they sound great unamped.

While an amp will probably (way to lazy to actually look at the stats)make it sound better, much like Bradan said, it's not worth it for the price range. Why pay roughly $100 for a cheap amp when your only paying $100 for your 'phones. I really don't recommend getting one unless your pushing out $200+ for a pair, and playing audio in a lossless format.

Thanks guys, I came to the same conclusion but in somewhat of roundabout way.

Once I got the AD700's I fell head over heels in love with them, so much so that I turned right around at bought their big brother, the AD900.

I did purchase an ASUS STX sound card and have been playing with different opamps in the last couple of weeks. I never thought that headphones could sound this good but they do.
