And like I said unfortunately at this point in time until the Edifiers are released can anything really dethrone the z5500s

Edifier's Signature Series Speakers :: TweakTown
1) Power is not that over-rated considering you can still vibrate things off walls 3 rooms away.
2) Sound quality is easily and greatly improved with the addition of some car audio tweeters on the satellites.
3) Agreed.
4) careful quoting Tweaktown reviews since they are not the most objective source.

I quite like my Z5500 and inclined to agree with b1lk1, try finding a comparable 5.1 system out there for computers with a digital tuner is near impossible.

Where in Canada can you get an Edifier 5.1 digital system yet?

There is nothing that great about SPDIF/Toslink FYI. The DAC on the Z5500 is pretty damn shitty IIRC. As long as you aren't using onboard sound you'll likely get better sound with analog.

So, I actually got around to testing out some Z-2300's.... and I have to say, they sound MUCH worse than my 40W M-Audio 2.0 setup. The bass is not particularily good, its just kinda, there... And there is little to no midrange, just highs. No matter what eq settings I messed with, I just couldnt get them to sound good. I have a feeling it would be similar for the 5500's. Do youself a favor and spend more on something a little bigger in the satelite departments.

Z680's/Z5500's have too much midrange and no highs. The bass is FAR superior compared to the Z2300's as well. The sets do not compare on any level.

No need to start the speaker wars all over again since it happens every time someone asks for speaker advice. Picking out speakers is very subjective and everyone has a different ear. Unless you spend $500+ on decent stereo gear then you need to buy dedicated PC speakers. M-Audios are nice but overpriced as well. Edifiers are excellent but they lack a really high end/powered model in their lineup. I have had a few sets of Edifiers and they have amazing sound/$$$ value, far better than any other out there. If they would sell a really powerful $300-500 5.1 system I would readily dump the Z680's for them.

What are they competing against? -Z-5500's. When you Compare them to that system, the S750 or S550 have much more to offer if you are in the market for a PC type speaker system.

Yes, I forgot that bit. I hate the logitech speakers...and that wasn't really directed at you, but @ Edifier...but we still needs pricing compares.

I dunno what it is, but I like 120-350hz...and ALOT of speakers out there are very weak in this range. The Z-5500 begin to roll off @ about 190hz...wood enclosures may allow the Edifier unit to excel there. Depends on the wood density.
