I need help choosing a sound card for gaming/music

(yes i know this is the wrong section but this seems to be the closest there is)
I have logitech x-540s and sennheiser hd 212s, the senns don't sound that great and crackle on my onboard audio.
I've been looking at the asus xonar series.
I'm using windows XP.

asus seems to be a good choice.
I guess your going to upgrade from w xp to w7 later on as a OS?

I pick asus, seems to be a better card today.

Xonar, Xplosion, Prelude, HT Omega Striker

Any are good.

I have the xplosion and I'm happy.

+1 for the Auzentech Prelude. Was having trouble with a Creative X-Fi card, bought the Prelude and it's smooth sailing ever since.

So i think i'm going to go with the xonar but which one :/

How much do you want to spend?

EaGle1337 January 5, 2009 02:44 PM

price isn't really a concern as long as it's under 200. cheaper the better though as i may be able to get it with my next paycheque.

The DX is around $100 and is what I'd recommend for most people. If you are an audiophile, the new Xonar Essence which comes with a headphone amp was just released, but it's like $215+tax.

i don't think the hd 212s qualify as needing the essence. should i look at creative's cards aren't the one of the best for gaming (at least xp wise).
