You should expect a heck of a step up.

Actually I found the D2000 and the essence to have sibilance issues.. not everyone was sensitive to it as I was, but it was present here. It was also present on my corda 3move dac+AMP. However the sibilance/harshness was NOT present on my technics receiver. I had planned to use them with a Beta22 amp I am building, owever while sending them to a guy to fix up the wood cups on it they were smashed in transit and I'm now dealing with the insurance bull. In the meantime, I've replaced them with the vintage grado RS-1's and I love this combo. No sibilance, harshness just that legendary grado sound.

Hi guys,

Do you think there is a big difference between the STX and a m-audio firewire audiophile or a ESI juli@ for a HIFI use with analog outputs only ?

(I use a rotel integrated amplifier with high-end 4-ways speakers)

thanks in advance for advise if you can compare these cards !

Hey Robscix

Just wondering about the opamp swappability. Is this sound card only stereo or 2 channel swappability or 5.1 capable. My analogue playaback interests are 2.1

The opamps affect then sound signature of the analog output only.

Sorry a little misunderstanding. What info I require is how many channels in this sound card can the opamps be swappable ? Analog output is not the question. I for sure will be utilizing these outputs. I would like to customize the opamps in the front channels and subwoofer for my requirements. Thanks Rob.

3 stereo opamps for the stereo output.
You have two JRC 2114D's they are a I/V converter section which both feed a LM4562NA which is the single end buffer.
To clarify, you can change three opamps. If you use the line outs, all three opamps affect the sonice signature.
If you use the headphone out, only the JRC2114D's affect the signature as the LM4562NA is routed out of the circuit through relays and the TI TPA6210 headphone amplifier chip is routed in.

Again, so we are clear the STX has stereo output ONLY through RCA line outs or the Headphone amp out.

BTW, the Xonar Essence ST is on the way to market, that card features a Pin Header which alows it to use a H6 DAC Expansion daughter card which support 7.1. Again, 3 opamps per stereo pair.
If your more into tweaking perhaps this might be a better match for you. The ST is PCI though.

Hope that gives you the info you want.
If you have anymore question let me know.
