Well I came across these on sale:
Future Shop: Audio: Home Speakers: Polk Audio Home Theatre Speaker System (RM10FS) - Web Only

And from what I can find it's a custom package done by Future Shop that has the following:
PSW10 Product Page : 10-inch Powered Subwoofer : Polk Audio
RM10 5-Pack Product Page : Four satellites and a center channel : Polk Audio

However the picture it shows it as this:
RM10 Product Page : : Polk Audio

Anyways, do you guys have any thoughts on it? For $250 I don't think I can really go wrong IMO. I get all new speakers and a powered subwoofer. Light years better than my Panasonic HTIB from like 5 years ago I'd say.

As for a receiver, probably still going with a Sony (waiting for the infamous TDSB sale at G&G) unless of course the sale doesn't offer. Then I'll probably hold out till boxing day and fight the madness Though this opens up more options...

I'm not a huge fan of polk audio as its pretty low level stuff thats usually being sold.

But with that said its still ok stuff and you'll notice a difference regardless.

While the sub in this package is only 8" as apposed to the 10" i think this is a much better deal as it includes a fairly decent recievr.

Denon Canada | DHT-589BA

Don't let the MSRP scare you off as audiotronic has it right now for $648.

Hrm that's not too bad...Shame there's no Audiotronics near me though.

Though I was kind of hoping for a receiver with 3+ HDMI ports since I know I'm already going to use 2 (PC + Cable) off the bat so I'd like an extra at least in case I get a Blu-Ray player or something.

I am hesitant to order speakers blindly off the Internet without hearing them in person so I don't even know if I'd grab the Polks from FS.

Ok, how much cash are you willing to spend on your speakers / reciever ? 1k, 2k, 3k+ ?

Speakers won't sound the same in a store as they do in you home; two different acoustics.

So won't make much difference.

As far as bang for the buck since that comes with a Denon (very good brand name) i think it is still a good deal. You can also order it online through audiotronic.ca.

One advantage that i have found with this package compared to other HTIB packages is the inclusion of banana plug connectors on the reciever. If your budget is a little higher say in the 2-3k range this is what i would recommend.

Denon 2809CI or Marantz SR5003 or Yamaha RXV863 or Onkyo 806. All around the 850-900 dollar mark.

Then take a look at the JBL ES series. I have 2 JBL ES-10's for my surround backs and they are awesome.

Finally head over to monoprice.com and get your speaker cable, av cables and connectors there. as even with the exchange rate and shipping it's still cheaper.

The Yamaha are great receivers. Dont forgot to look around for speakers or subs used. You can find some fantastic deals!
