I never format, but watch everything that I install ... Then again, I almost never use freeware ...

In reality, there's some great freeware out there, and that's not the software that chokes my chicken. It's the programs that I pay $30 - $60 for that I purchased for whatever reason and then won't let you install only the components that you need but insist on installing all of their own features which are often turdware.

I normally have to have a major malfunction before I reformat, and it PMO more when I had to pay for the grief that causes it in the first place. I guess that's what I was hoping to find out from this thread - so I could avoid bloatware mistakes in the future.

Remember, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're not out to get you.

Ah yes, that really pissed me off when I got the Apple Airport Extreme router ...

First, every other router I've ever used had a web-based interface, meaning no software to install; this one did not.

Second, along with the software required to setup and control the router, it came with Bonjour, iTunes, Quicktime, and Safari. I didn't want that crap but it installed it without giving me the option (actually, it did give me the option; I unchecked them all and, after restarting my computer, they were there anyways).

Combined with the only 3 wired ports, lack of UPNP support, and forced reboot for every setting change (even opening ports), it pretty much forced me into the arguably inferior performing and much less elegant D-Link DIR-655 (which is an awesome router, don't get me wrong).

But, yes, Norton 360 and pretty much any game using copy protection software piss me off as well. BTW, if you want Norton 360, I got some free copies from work that I will never use ;)

This might sound really dumb, but Trend-Micro is another product I will never install again either. NOD FTW.

Removing Mcafee is a pain also, but I agree Symantec Norton is the worst thing to remove on a computer...

Anything from HP. Their laptops come already slow from all the bloatware installed. A printer comes with a CD full of crap it installs. The QC is lacking too, so many system problems with their software.
