I have been using AVG Free from Grisoft for 5 years on every system I have built and have never had a virus, Trojan, or lag from stressed system resource use due to it running in the background

AVG spite everyone recommending it isn't that great. It has a horrible tendency to think something is bad when it nots (false positive) or allow stuff into the system and make you think your clean (norton situation)

Honestly I've used many but Nod32 is what I'm sticking with. Very fast with minimal or not even noticeable system lag. It's a fantastic product.

never had a false positive, never had a virus, never had a trojan, never been hacked on any game account? 5 years solid use on multiple pc's including ones I build for others and is what I recommend when asked.
Norton's = false positives, leaks, huge resource pig

i personally use bit defender antivirus 2008. Considering the price it can't be beat. 3 computers, 1 year for 30.00 USD :D They also have a free one but it doesn't do real time scanning.

Have to put in another vote for Nod32 here. Recently installed Vista Ultimate 64, and Nod32 is hardly even noticeable. Seems like a great product so far.

I don't use anything... I'm just very careful about where I go and what I open.

I do a free online scan every once in a while.
