Default Suggestions for a CPU heatsink?

Okay so I built my rig with the stock CPU heatsink

So the temps are a little high... which I don't appreciate

So here I am looking for suggestions on a cpu heatsink, keep in mind I know nothing about heatsinks (I know what they do, just not which one to get)

Also, I would need to buy thermal paste right? (which brand?)
Finally if the heatsink you suggest needs a fan, let me know which one.

Thanks!

See my sig for any info regarding my rig.

I did read stuff but I don't like mentioning anything to influence how people respond. But since you have to ask, Is the Triple Heatpipe one better?
NCIX.com - Buy OCZ Vendetta 2 Triple Heatpipe CPU Heatsink AM2 LGA775 S939 S940 S754 120MM Fan 800-1500RPM 20-32DBA - OCZTVEND2 In Canada.

Pricematch with directcanada for only 29.90

Or should I get this one
NCIX.com - Buy OCZ Vendetta Heatpipe CPU Heatsink AM2 LGA775 S939 S940 S754 92MM 1200-2800RPM - OCZTVEND In Canada.
Only 20...

Oh and it looks to already have a fan right?

I also heard the Ultra 120 was good, but it's a fair bit more expensive...

yes of course triple heatpipe ( according to this OCZ Vendetta 2 CPU Cooler Review )

yes true black is totally 110 cdn if you buy two p12 fans... i believe vendetta 2 ( sorry i misspelled it before) is best value cpu cooler... but fan little loud than p12.... if you replace fan with p12 then you will get best result of temperature as almost same as true black...)

You may also want to consider the Noctua NH-U12P heatsink. See the excellent review by AkG. It comes with an NF-P12 fan and clips for a second fan as well. I replaced my former TRUE with one and the performance is comparable, but the base and mounting system of the Noctua is far superior to the Thermalright. NCIX has them in stock.

I like my True 120, but actually adding the Accelero (passive) to my GPU dropped all my temps by about 8 degrees. I'm hoping Arctic Cooling comes out with an Accelero for the 4870x2 before I decide to go there.

Ok so I went with the OCZ Vendetta 2, and the Noctua p12 Fan (it was on sale, why not), and the Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Paste.

I looked at The Xigmatek HDT-S1283, which was almost the same as the OCZ Vendetta 2 and cheaper, but since it was only $5 cheaper I just went with the Vendetta 2.

I checked this out too.

Well to say the least, Xigmatek was the original version of the 3 direct touch heatpipe cooler, and then Vendetta 2 came out, which was very slight changes to the original design (Xigmatek), and it performed better surprisingly. But you gotta see this review HDT Cooler Shootout! - Icrontic.com.. The new king is Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer, it beats the TRUE 120 as well. In my opinion get it, its worth it.
