Accelero Xtreme III Or Accelero Xtreme PLUS II?
So Iíve been considering getting an aftermarket GPU cooler for a long time and I Finally got sick of my turbine fan being so loud and the poor idle & load Temp on my XFX 4890.

Now I would like to take in to consideration compatibility for future builds and the Accelero Xtreme III has just that; even right up to the newest GPUís 680 GTX Without the stacked power socket & ATI 7870

While the Accelero Xtreme PLUS II supports up to the 580 GTX & ATI 7870.
What is another concern of mine is build quality between the two; this is where you come in if you own either of these two or both please tell me what you think of them.

I still really want to go with the Accelero Xtreme III just on the fact of compatibility; but if you can convince me otherwise for a good reason please do.

Also I should add another reason, NCIX sells the Accelero Xtreme PLUS II for 84.99$ while Newegg.ca sells both for about the same price Accelero Xtreme PLUS II for 79.99$ and the Accelero Xtreme III for 77.99$

Thank you for your time and I apologize for the long winded nature of this post.

The Xtreme Plus II is 100% compatible with a reference 4890.

Oh I know that itís compatible with the 4890 they both are.

My concerns lie with the build quality of both products.

Iíve read quite a few reviews and the temps seem to be very good on cards like the 680-GTX.

If anyone has either one of these I want to know what your experience with has been.

Here is a review of the ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme III in comparison with theAsus GTX 680 Direct CU II TOP cooler.

I've had a DCII 580 with that Xtreme Plus II which kept the card under 75 degrees at load while OCed to 910MHz core/1100MHs mem and was practically inaudible.
I think they're identical heatsinks just that the III is compatible with the newer cards.

Iím glad to hear it worked so well and was quiet.

The 4890 Turbine fan even at 1700rpm itís very audible and Iím very concerned about my high frequency hearing.
Iíve had my computer sat next to me about a meter for years.
Mind you Iím at my computer for 8+ hours a day.
Have you ever heard of people having hearing loss from being around their computers?

GT7R September 24, 2012 12:48 AM

Not really, I know a few people who work in the very noisy server rooms for years and their hearing is fine.. But if it's a very high-pitch noise (A loud coil-whine for example) than it definitely can affect your hearing.
Maybe try to sell your card and just get a new one (your card ~60$, the cooler ~80$..) you can get a used 560Ti for that amount :)

The card has no Coil whine even when under load.

Yea I thought about maybe selling it but the cooler on it is not in the best of shape.

The screws on the bracket are warped from cleaning out the dust in the inside of the card and I would not want to but the burden of fixing that on someone else.

I do however plan to use the cooler on a future card so thatís why I choose the Accelero Xtreme III for its extended compatibility with newer cards.

I like the idea of a 560-Ti for only 80$ but It would take a while to find someone selling one in the area I live in.
