Scythe Ninja Rev B. for those considering it - lots of pics 56k warning!

I thought I'd post my pics of the Scythe Ninja Rev B. for those that are considering it. There are obviously in-depth reviews available but you can't see enough pics before you buy something, so here are mine.

My opinion for what it's worth: It's a large impressive looking cooler. Difficult to seat on an AM2 since it doesn't have a pulley style clip. Could use a lapping out of the box and seems to work better when you spread the TIM thin across the CPU rather than a bead of it. I get 36-37C idle and 59C under load with it in a well ventilated CM690 with an AMD X2 6400+ BE

so now is the fan on the back a exhaust or intake, just wondering cause I have same case and thinking of getting this cooler for my E6550.
did you lap your cooler.

yycraven, The back fan is exhaust. I have the front fan in, the side fan in, and the one on the bottom next to the PSU is the stock Scythe fan blowing in. So with the Heatsync fan blowing back and the back fan exhausting I should have positive pressure in the case pushing out. I didn't lap the HS yet, the operative word is yet. You should have an easy time of it putting it in with the 775 push pins. Also there is an aluminum finned block near the bottom that you can see in the pic just before the one of the sticker, you want the fan to push through that ideally, I couldn't mount it that way since the fan would push up rather than line up with my back exhaust. I tried it though and didn't see a difference, but it would be optimal and easy on a 775 install.

Unfortunately I don't have the stock temps since my 6400+ was a Black Edition which has no stock cooler. I did get a 2C drop when I changed the TIM from dot to spread method. I'd find it difficult to believe that this beast didn't do a much better job, in fact it has been argued that it has 12 heatpipes and not the modest 6 that scythe states, I guess they are counting the U as 1.

If you want to push and overclock though I haven't been that successful with this HS, I hit 62C and I didn't like it, I may be trying to push my Procs into watercooling territory though... I understand that 3.5Ghz is at the limit of the 6400+

well so far with my stock cooling Im doing 3.05GHz and full load its 53C. I figure if I get this for a HS I could go higher.
my goal is to get 3.6GHz on air on this chip.
we will see I guess.

ive always count heatpipe like that because its the same copper tube that made the U

6 U = 6 heatpipe

For those considering the Scythe Ninja Rev.B...it is an excellent cooler, but there are other choices with similar prices and same/better performance.

The Thermalright Ultima-90 is an excellent cooler, and is within a few dollars of the Ninja; but you need buy a fan for it. The Coolermaster GeminII is also a good choice if you want to cool the components around the CPU (eg. RAM, NB) as well. The TT120 is also a good choice now, as it's price has dropped a bit closer to the Ninja's. I also recall seeing some reviews saying that Scythe's own Infinity/Mugen(?) beats the Ninja, but it does cost a few dollars more...

I don't know what I'm trying to say or why I went through the effort to say what i said.....

Anyways, I have a Ninja and I think it's a great cooler...I need to lap it cuz my temps peak in the low 70s. Or maybe I could just get better fans...but I don't want to increase the noise...any recommendations?

Does this come with thermal compound? If so, what type is it?
