Default Antec 900 and a Thermalright Ultra 120

Hi guys,

I plan on putting a TRU 120 on my new build. However I am concerned it may not fit in my Antec 900. I have a 120mm Fan on the side panel and am worried there is not enough room left to pop one of these suckers in.

Is there anyone currently using the same case, with a side panel fan, using a TRU 120.

Cheers

Well perhaps a small mod to place the fan on the outsid eof the side panel is in order. My recent tests of GPU temps shows a marked improvement with the side fan onboard.

What do your video cards temp while just playing singleplayer COD4..... ?

Of course it will!

I have the side case fan and the TRU fits fine. You have to change the orientation however, so the longer side of the TRU faces up (e.g. if there was a fan on the TRU, it would be pointing either to the bottom/top of the case, rather than front/back).

Cooling was not hampered in my system (load 53/54 before and after), and my GPU still gets some nice, fresh air.

Well pointing to the top would not be a bad thing at all with the 900 case setup. The 240mm fan at the top of the case is there to exhaust out of the case anyway. I see this orientation as a benifit.

Thanks for the info.

I am thinking of doing a smoke style test on the case to see the actual airflow under different configurations. That could be interesting. Has anyone here ever experimented with that style of testing?

I would be really interested in seeing these results. I'm curious to see how the side fan affects the case airflow, when it is set on either intake/exhaust. If you do go through with it, let me know what you find out.

I most cetainly will. Think it will be a fun project. However, I do not expect to have the time to do it for awhile. Lots of other things to do at the moment.

If you are interested to see the cooling results on the GPU with the side fan blowing on it read my recent test I did here What do your video cards temp while just playing singleplayer COD4..... ?

I have two 120mm fans attached to my TRUE 120 in a push/pull config, so that all the air is pushed out the top through the 240mm fan. I was going to mount it in the other direction so that the air would go through the back exhaust fan, but my NB was in the way.

I can tell you that with my config, I'm not able to fit a 120mm fan on the side window. However, I did manage to fit a 92mm fan - it holds together very nicely with a couple of zip ties and only one of the four "raised mounts" through the fan.

I put the 120 ultra extreme in my 900 this weekend, it was a very tight fit. Also replaces the tim on the mosfets and north & south bridge while I had it out, and reversed my hdd. To keep a 120mm fan in the side window, I cut out a new window and lowered the fan.
