2600k idle temps

i just completed my new 2600k build over the weekend and its been running since fri at stock settings however its idling at 40C which seems a little high seeing that reviews around the net show it idle at 30-35C.. my ambient temp is between 25-30C...





here is my setup

i7 2600k
Asus P8P67
Thermalright Venomous X @ 70lbs (push-pull yate loons config)
Lancool PC-K62 chassis
4 case fans (2x140mm on top, 1x120mm on the back, 1x140mm on the front)
Arctic MX-2 thermalpaste

i realize that there can be many factors (ambient temp, thermal paste and etc) related to this but how can i get it below 40C?

with ht on i find that ok. now if you said 50-60 i would've imagined stock heat sink and probably a poorly ventilated case :)

Have you tried the stock fan that came with your cooler? I was getting these temps as your describing at my old 2600k at 4.6ghz, not stock. I was using prolimatech megah with 2 cooler master blade master in push pull config.

Idle doesn't really matter much, those are fine temperatures to run at... what does it get loaded?

With an ambient temperature of that high I'm not surprised you're idling that hot at that frequency.

Your main concerns ultimately though are load temps, idle temps don't really mean much for the most part.

What CPU HS paste did you use? What method did you use to apply it (there is a nice thread on HWC about how to do this properly but my favorite and most widely used now is the pea method! I just built a 965 for a friend with this method and temps were 22c idle and 46 running prime 95 for an hour.

That was with a noctua cooler though but still I've seen bad thermalpaste cause a cpu to be 15c higher if to much is on it.

I do have 2 I2600K with a Lancool PC-K62 both cooled by a Nocta D14 and at stock speed (idle) with 1.18 volts im around 30c. Lowest core is at 28c highest core 33c.

If you use the intel heatsink you have the normal temperature
