Cooling soloution under 150mm?
Hey guys I just replaced my old mobo/cpu with a 2500k set and I need a after party heatsink.
The issue is though I have a generic case and I only have about 6" from cpu to edge of case ( AKA cpu cooler has to be under 150mm )
I was thinking about the one below or the H60 ( on sale) but I doubt the H60 would fit.
COOLER MASTER Hyper TX3
XIGMATEK LOKI SD963
ATM my temps are idle 38-45 and load max iv seen is 70.
Here are the pics guys, please let me know my best option.
Would the H60 even fit in there?
dont know bout the h60,but the cm212+ should do,since its 148.50 i believe..lemme check....hmm...
looks like im wrong : Hyper 212 Plus - Cooler Master - Leading Provider of Computer Case | Cooler | Power Supply
but ive fit it in many cases.
tx3 will fit for sure
Hyper TX3 - Cooler Master - Leading Provider of Computer Case | Cooler | Power Supply
but less potent at driving away the heat
edit : can you get a 912? youll fit whatever cooler in there and have a nice case for cheep:thumb::thumb::thumb:
No i cant get a new case =( blew to much on the i5 bundle and ram LOL. Ya a lot of people said 212 but it wont fit for sure with a closed case. I wanted to try the H60 but affraid it wont mount on the grill as it seems it dose not have enough height....
tx3 Looks tempting, let me read some more reviews.
borrow some cash and get that 912,dont go down the wrong path :)
Hmm Ill think about it over night. I was browsing newegg and I saw this, what do you think of it?
Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Hyper N 520 RR-920-N520-GP 92mm Sleeve CPU Cooler Intel Core i7 compatible
I measured my case and a H60 will not fit inside of it =(. I I buy a 212 I would have to leave the case open, idk if that is safe or not...
If you don't mind pushpins, the Scythe Rasetsu fits the bill and can be PMed at NCIX below $40. (they have it mispelled as Rasetu ATM)
Otherwise, most Zalman HSF's are ~150mm tall and will perform adequately without too much noise.
I assume that's a 92/80mm fan space in the back of your case right?
Well how do you guys measure it? If i go diagonally its 120mm from hole to hole i think.
If its a 120 then get a H60 and you're done.
Otherwise grab a low profile cooler and populate that last fan spot.
Downdraft cooler -- not as good as the tower coolers but still significant. Noctua C12P-SE14 has a 140mm fan, total 114 mm in height.
Fans are measured by width or height (circular, so the two dimensions are the same). A 120 mm fan measures 120 x 120 x depth. If I'm reading the ruler correctly, your case fan would be set up for an 80 or 92 mm fan.
I wonder if there's any point to putting an exhaust fan that small, that close to the PSU intake (looks like a 120 mm fan there) and the CPU cooler -- the pressure from those two fans might well reverse the flow. Maybe use it for an intake fan instead and set your case up with positive pressure?
That said, a CM 912 is only $60 and you're looking at spending almost that much on a mini-cooler. Someone with more experience with the HAF 912 could tell you whether the additional airflow of a case like that would improve your CPU temperatures, even if you stuck with the Intel heatsink. The other benefit is that a good case will outlast the rest of your components, so it's not a throwaway cost like the rest of the rig.
youre getting close to hr-02 territory when in special :)
go with the 212 but i wouldve done a case jobbe if it were me :)
well the 912 will be quite the upgrade in terms of space, airflow and internal arrangements
it comes stock with 2 120's last i checked but yes it can tale larger fans. no need though.
stock ones are ok. not loud either.
