From my experience(installed it on a friend's rig), the A70 is actually GREAT. Installation isn't the best, but noise/performance definitively on par with say a Noctua NH-D12.

well i will admit the intel (if thats what it was) mounting for it is better but hes using amd and the a70 on amd is horrible. after having mine for about 4 months on my 925 the ing mount broke sending the damn thing flying into my video card destroying that and plus my temps weren't all that great either probably since it HAD to be mounted north-south sucking hot VGA air so yea that's why i hate the a70 with a passion

a good cooler should be at acceptable noise levels even at 100% load, truth is the v6 isn't that great a heatsink....as a matter of fact its not much different from the H212+ just loaded with 2 crazy fast/loud fans just to put it higher on performance charts...then again the A70 isnt much better for AMD as ur forced to go north-south....

tbh i wouldnt go with either and just go for an armagedon (when it goes on sale for 20-30$ and just pick up 2 nice pwm fans with it) or if you can't w8 for that to happen just go for the H212+ for good temps/mounting or just go super cheap (15$) for a Vendetta 2 keeps my friends 955BE@4ghz at 45C under prime95 load even though it also only mounts N-S!

fact is AMD cpus dont run hot and dont need expensive coolers...just buy something not too loud that is cost effective.

the v6 gt is loud?

if i were to get a hyper 212+ do you think it would be a better alternative if i grabbed 2 fans? if so what fans should i get

are these good?

it goes back and forth it really depends on the profile in the bios of your board. the gigas have rather good fan profiles im not sure about other brands though

For a AMD build you cant go wrong with the 212+ the stock blademaster fan does a decent job out of the box. I was always impressed by the 212+ capability and price, add in a extra fan for pull and you will get even better performance. Kept my unlocked 720 quad @ 1.47v under 60c during last summer using the stock blademaster fan for push and a nfp12 (I think it was last year) for pull.
