AKG? Best Coolers for Sandy Bridge 2500K-2600K OC

Hi all,

Sandy bridge is out, we all know that it's based on socket 1155. Coolers compatible with 1156 are also good for 1155. Good news.

Now, as AKG is the Cooling dude, it would be nice if he could tell us what to expect, which coolers would be better suited to run high overclocks on SB's unlocked CPUs 2500K and 2600K... We're talking from 4.6GHz up to 4.8GHz, maybe 5.0GHz (for the lucky bastages that will get a GEM)....

I'm eyeing the Noctua NH-D14, to put on a GA-P67A-UD4 or P8P67 Pro...RQAM clearance will be an issue, but Ripjaws or Muskin Blacks are fine...maybe D14 is overkill for Sandy (NH-D14 cools down hot 1366 chips after all). Sandy, being 32nm, doesn't have the same thermal output as the 1366 CPUs...

So, AKG and all early adopters of 1155 chips, please let's work together to put together an 1155 cooling thread

Thermalright Venomous-X CPU Cooler at Memory Express Computers - its on for $49.99

I picked up this to go with my UD7. Not sure about clearance but its a pretty good price. I price matched with NCIX and got $8 express shipping. From what I know they are one of the better HS available.

Since 1156 cooler fit on 1155 a good 1156 cooler would be as good on the 1155. According to windwithme review of the chip the prolimatech megahalem seems to give awesome result.

Bingo I'm just going to stick with the Megahalems.

Megahalems/Thermalright Venomous or even the noctua nh-u12p are top notch coolers loved them all only 1 i still don't have is the prolimatech really didn't need 3 great air coolers

Zalman MAX would be a good fit too, as well as the Flex with the right fans.

KK, Megahalems ($50 on sale from NCIX, NO FANS included)
Thermalright Venomous X, $75, no fans included...
Noctua NH-U12P ($79, including 2 X p12 fans...)

With two decent fans (push/pull), you reach, or go above the price of the Noctua Nh-14D ($89).

Both the Magahalems and Venomous X are way up there in terms of cooling capability, thx for the advices.

Zalman? They're back in the race? I though they were left in the dust when S775 came out (I may be way out-to-lunch)..

Is it this one?:

NCIX.com - Buy Zalman CNPS9900MAX-R Nickel Plated Copper Headsink Red LED 135mm LGA1156 LGA1366 LGA775 AM3 AM2 - CNPS9900MAX-R In Canada.

You can get a good PMed price on that MAX...really nice
Also, on the Zalman, there is NO issues with RAM clearances, another plus.

From benchmark reviews:

Thanks soultribunal, its a model to consider...

Put 2 of these fan ( can PM with Canada computer for 2$ less ) on the megahalem. End to 50 + 30 so 80 for one of the best performer and some killer fan. I am actually using these fan for RAD and my 212. The Zalman is a nice pick but there is a little stopper for me, if the fan come to die after the warranty then you are screwed.

Which fans are you suggesting? Where is the link again? lol

For the Zalman fan observation, I agree, I did read that from the reveiw that it's a custom fan, and if it dies, it has to be replaced by the very same thing...good point.

True, but the 3 Zalmans i've had have made it past 2 years now without Fail. And on the old 939 system I donated to my family, the CNPS9000 is still going strong.
Realistically, you will be changing out the whole setup before you worry about replacing the cooler.
