You should be fine. People snap on rubber pins, which are insulators, onto their fans to their metal heatsink.

I sprayed the top of my heatsink with Dupli-color engine ename (Dupli-color Engine Enamel | Canadian Tire). I did some preliminary testing, I actually saw a 1 degree drop in temperature during intel burn test. Of course this was by no mean a controlled test, so it could be just fluctuation in room temperature or due to new thermal paste.

room temps lol

if you paint the whole thing i bet you see temps go up by 2-6c

Nah! It was just the top of the cooler! I will post some pictures when i get my mushkin ridgeback or redline to complete my build!
