Default what would be a decent upgrade from the Ven-X?

I'm currently running my i7 with a Venomous-X. I have it running at 1.23V and its idling at 40-44C and while doing 100 runs in LinX got to 82C. I really don't like how high these temps are, and i also hate the Ven-X mounting system, I'm worried its going to crush my socket if i tighten it any more. So what would be a decent upgrade from here?

So far only two i could really find that are within my price range, and that should outperform my Ven-X are: Noctua NH-D14, and a modded H50 with a 240 rad, and a reservoir. But what do you guys think?

Why not just make a custom loop as opposed to modding an H50, if that's even possible?

It's very possible, (Guide) H50 Replace Tubes and Res Mod. - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net

I plan on doing a custom loop once i have some cash flow, but the modded h50 is in my price range.

You'll gain maybe 1-2C from moving to a different heatsink. Maybe.

If you aren't happy w/ your air cooling temps maybe it is time to step it up to water.

Nothing would be a significant upgrade. Your temperatures are also perfectly fine. Stick with the Venomous-X and leave it be.

No point on spending money that will net you minimal performance gains (the H50/Noctua cooler). Save the $$ for your future waterloop.

The Corsair H70 is coming shortly which should offer better performance if you want to go that route.

But as others have said, just invest in a full proper loop. You're probably looking at around $400.

Definitely don't need to spend that much for a CPU only loop.

Swiftech XT $55
MCR320 $47
MCP350 $55
10 feet of Primoflex $15
Micro-res $20
3 sets of bitspower fittings $12
$204 + taxes.

Are you set up in just a push configuration, or a push-pull configuration. Also what case/case fans do you have and what fans are on then HSF itself as well?
