Looking for good 5850 cooling I'm looking for good, QUIET cooling solution for a 5850. Again, this is for a multimedia PC, so quiet is important. I'm rather dissapointed that the Twin Turbo Pro has no 5850 support. Seems odd since it supports the 5870? |
I use the Zalman VF1000 Newegg.ca - ZALMAN VF1000 2 Ball VGA Cooler It is not supported for the 5850, but the cooler fits on the card without any modifications, and keeps the card very cool. Even at full fan speed, it is very quiet. This thread shows you how to install the cooler for best effectiveness: Better cooler for ATI 5850 - Zalman VF1000 - Futuremark / YouGamers Forums Good luck. |

As jcmaz said, use the Accelero. Bit of modding needed but since it's a relatively cheap cooler I'm sure you won't mind. Use the backplate from the stock cooler for the vrms and mem. A standard 120mm fan can be used but if you don't want it to take 4 slots, use a slim Scythe slipstream or the overpriced turbo modules. |
Thanks for the responses! I'm thinking about going with the Zalman for ease of install, but gonna do a bit more looking in to it. |
The Gelid Icy vision looks pretty sexy and officially supports the 5850. |
I'm using the twin turbo pro actually. A quick mod to the fins and it does fit, and to be honest, does an amazing job cooling the GPU. |
Thanks Matt! That looks like exactly what I was after. I also found this thread showing a nice breakdown of the install. Now I just need to decide between the Coolit Eco and the Corsair H50 for a quiet CPU cooling solution. |
The Zalman VF3000A is the up dated version of the modle metioned before and its 5850 compatable by default. |
