im buying 13x 120mm and 4x 140mm noctuas but i want to spray paint them all black. bad idea? will it throw off the balance of the fans and make them more turbulant and noisy? or will they be alright.

It won't work unless you buy vinyl or plastic bonding paint. Krylon makes decent stuff.

It's doable.. It will somewhat effect performance but not by all that much.. they'll be fine. Google guides on painting fans... Your best bet is to dismantle them first.

Really though if you don't like the colour of Noctua's just go buy an equally performing fan in a different colour :)

If you don't get it exactly balanced, the fan will become INSANELY off balance, and literally unusable.

Hence it's important to get a light and even coat

I used some Duplicolor vinyl dye from Canadian Tire on my Noctua P12s. Didn't seem to have any ill effects and the fans are running in my server 24/7 currently.

I broke one of them though just by dropping it off my table. Blades poped out and I guess all the lubricant leaked out, since now it makes quite a bit of noise.

Noctua's are so pretty... I can't see why you would want to spray paint an artistic masterpiece in design.
