Default E2180 stock heat sink for E8400?

I got a E8400 without the heatsink, so i been wondering if the E2180's stock heatsink would be fine for it. Since they both have the same TDP

I be using the E8400 @ stock speed

I've been using the smaller 45nm heatsinks for a Q6600, and it runs fine. Not sure if they're the same as the E2180 heatsink though.

You'll be fine, but keep it @ stock or you're pushing your luck. I wouldn't be able to do it.

The stock HSF for the Q6600 is huge, are you sure your fine with a 45nm version?

I also have a vendetta siting here but its so damn tall

I won't be able to overclock on a G31 board No need to worry about 400FSB

Good thing this E8400 is lapped, a few C lower, now I just need those noctua TIMs from NCIX

the best stock coolers up to the new cpus using a tower cooler style have been the pentium d's ones. copper core, bigger and heavier. only downturn is a crappily noisy fan, high cfm but noisy as fudge. nothing a zip tie or two and a quieter 120mm cant fix.

I got 3.4 out of some Q6600's on G45 P5Q-VM with Xigmatek 1283. Just running BOINC on 15 of them blew the AC in the room... there goes the farming.

Those Q6600 produce quite a bit of heat, I hate a TRUE 120 with push and pull on one of them and the heatsink was warm to touch

Dang, time to upgrade the AC eh

g31 ocs if it has the option(s). power filtering and mobo cooling worries me a tad, especially with a quad.
