Default Fan noise for Athlon II X2 240

I just installed an Athlon II X2 240 with stock HSF, I've noticed that the fan starts spinning really fast as soon as you get to 30 degrees. It makes a pretty big noise (sometimes reaches 5000rpm on high load) I've had to use SpeedFan to keep the fan from spinning so fast. Is this the experience that everyone has had? If so, are there any ways around this?

What motherboard is this on and do you have Smart Fan Options enabled ? With a Thermal threshold set on them?

I've used stock fan on an Athlon 620 X4 for my father and its quiet as a mouse with Smart Fan Enabled on a G-Byte S Series board.

Turned off the alarm and still have the same problem, it goes faster when its above 30 degrees and then really fast above 40 degrees, do you think this is a mobo problem?

I'm gonna vote bad seating perhaps?

Just to check as well, do you have AMD Cool and Quiet Enabled as well? Perhaps a Re-Seat of the CPU Cooler with new Paste is in order. If all else fails get yourself a new aftermarket sink,

NCIX.com - Buy GELID Solutions Tranquillo LGA775/1156/1366 AM2/AM3 I7/I5/PHENOM Heatpipe Cooler PWM 120MM Fan - CC-TranQ-01-A In Canada.

Do your fans reach 5000+rpm? It's really quiet when its <2500rpm, but it decides to spin fast when it gets above 30 degrees.

I tried it with AMD quiet'n'cool enabled and disabled, same problem.

I've also tried reseating it. I feel like the fan is spinning more than necessary. When I control it with SpeedFan, and limit it to 30-55% fan speeds, it stays quiet, but I'd prefer not to have to use software to make sure the fan isn't loud. I'd be fine if the fan started spinning faster at 45 degrees or something, but 4000rpm at 30 degrees is just unnecessary

Can you guys check your RPM's at full loads for those who have stock fans with this cpu? Thanks!!! much appreciate your input

If he doesn't need really good cooling but wants quiet, go for the Gelid Silent Spirit. Not an outstanding cooler in terms of temps, but it does a good bit better than stock and it's the quietest sink on the market I've seen.
