Default Additional cooling for CM 690 II Advanced

Hi guys,

NCIX is putting together my new rig right now, but I'm already thinking about adding additional fans to it. I've already decided to add a cpu heat sink/cooler (Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro REV.2), but I'm also thinking about adding either a 80mm fan or a 140mm fan.

The case in question is the CM 690 II Advanced. The 80mm fan would go behind the mobo tray, while the 140mm exhaust fan would go to the top of the case, complementing the existing 140mm fan.

My question: which would be more effective? Adding the 80mm behind the mobo tray, or the 140mm to the top?

Thanks!

140mm to the top, no question.

The 80mm behind the CPU socket is pretty useless IMO, unless you're doing some really crazy overclocking.

Actually JD, to correct you on one small detail if I may. When HWC Did the Review of the THermaltake case that had a Fan Port for the other side panel, it dropped temps by something signifigant. Its a worthwhile investment if you can find one that will fit. I think it has to be 80x80x15mm.

Thanks guys. I assume the CM one is better because of the larger fan?

The AC one is okay I suppose. The CM one is prefered mainly because it has the option for you to use whatever Fan you want. Strap a Pair of CM R4 LED fans to that and enjoy the nice temps. Its really a Superior cooler for its price point.

If you start aiming for something more high end, well the Zalman Flex is a really good option as well. Zalman has stepped up their game quite well these days.

That, and it has more fin area, an additional heatpipe, and a better design overall.
