Default Thinnest or smaller fan

It seems the optional stock heat sink fan that came with my itx board wont fit in the areas i want to put it (on its side its too big, i think a 40mm would fit on its side) and its slightly too thick to sit ontop of the heat sink (its about 10mm thick). I was wondering if anyone had any solutions to either
Smallest length x width or
thinnest

Hmm that could work on both the heat sink and one in the case as well, i'll have to do some measurements later on today when i hopefully mount the motherboard in the case so i know what specific dimensions i'm dealing with. All i know is the stock fan at 60mm x 60mm x 15mm was too wide to sit on its side and slightly too thick to sit on the heat sink and close the case properly.

I may do this:
10 mm thickness fan on my heatsink
40mm x 40mm with good cfm in the case on its side blowing air to the heat sink. Not sure about which one for this second fan
