My System Specs

Default Should I change my cooler?

Hey guys,

today i received my new 920 d0 and managed to push it to 4.0ghz with these settings and all seems stable now

Quote:
BCLK [201]
Clock Ratio [20x]
CPU Uncore [16x]
PCIE [100Mhz]
CPU Vcore [1.300V]
CPU VTT [+100mV]
CPU PLL [Auto] (1.8V)
QPI Vcore [1.48V]
DIMM Voltage [1.65V]
IOH [1.4V]
IOH/ICH [1.65V]
ICH Vcore [1.25V]
Mem. Freq. [2:8] - 8-8-8-24-74-1T
But one thing is worrying me, the temps, @ 100% they seem to average around 80 to 85, which I think is a little high...!!

So come to the question; Should I upgrade my Corsair H50 to a Thermalright Venomous X (would I see a noticeable difference? I'd keep the same fans) or is WC the only way out for better temps ?

I don't care being in the 70's, 80+ is just too much, now my CPU crashed twice because the temps would hit near 90 (or be it unstable OC, the temp doesn't help)

Venomous X it is!

TR-VX seems to destroy both Megahalem and Cu-TRUE which were supposed to be the top dogs with the NH-D14, which all performed better than the Corsair H50...I'll stay in air cooling for now, looked at the prices for a 'top-quality' WC loop and it's a little out of my budget for now! I'd want Heatkiller + MCP655 + Feser Triple Rad + 3 Gentle Typhoons....around 450$ for great performance because I don't want to cheap out and go with a Swiftech Rad and a lesser block (if I go into WC, every C will count ) so I'll stay with the top air solutions!

The TR-VX won't be amazingly better than the TRUE and Megahalems, maybe 2-3c.

Watercoolings another story, it's only good if you have time to maintain it.

2-3C less on a 100% load PC 24/7 can make quite a difference , and it shall be more than 2-3C difference with my current H50!

Hey
I would reccomend the venomous X because it does better than the H50, only 1 rad is not going to coole you system.. besides water cooling kits have problems, the pump dies quickly at high temperatures.
If I were you I would go for the venomous X, you can also lap it.
