My System Specs

Default Noctua NF-P12 fan is over rated

Based on user reviews, I bought 2 of these.
Replaced my vendetta fan with this one. No improvement in sound and cpu temp is same when I run P95
Pretty disappointed. I thought with thi s fan, it will cool my cpu a few degrees so I can overclock to 4.0 GHz, but not.

So, the fan that came with vendetta 2 must be very good, just as quiet and keeps same cpu temp.

Welcome to yesterday ;)

Overpriced, ugly colored fans that people pay way to much for.

You probably can't hear the sound difference over the rest of your system (4850 is a pretty loud card). But yes, they are VERY over priced. They are good fans, but there are better for less. One thing about them is that you won't notice any clicking, ticking or other noises you may hear on other fans though.

Your system is only as quiet as the loudest fan.

You need to improve the whole system or you won't get any benefit from the Noctuas.

the CFM is way too low for such a high thermal CPU.

what fans are used on rear and top exhaust? some yates and coolermaster fans?

instead of getting an expensive cpu fan why not get some high CFM exhaust?

It should be fine. A little toasty, but it should be fine. I had my own i7 up to 4.2GHz on a V2+1600rpm Scythe fan, and P95 temps peaked at 82*C. Still, not everybody's comfortable with those temps, I realize.

These are fans with high static pressure, not high CFM. As such (if I remember correctly) they are better suited to pushing air through tight spaces. At any rate they're dead silent on my i7's U12P and keep the i7 beautifully chilly so I'm happy.

The GELID SILENT 12 Fans ... the 1000rpm ones are excellent ... cheap and quiet. Work like a beauty on my antec 900.

First of all, my system was very quiet with CM690 case, a fan at back, front, and side (all came with CM690). Vendetta2 fan is also very quiet. I removed the fan from 4850 and strapped a 80mm panaflow fan to it, making it very quiet.

So, I thought with all the talk about the Noctua fan being high pressure, and it should move more air through the vendetta 2 heat sink. Not, it did not give me better temp, altho it is quiet, but not any quieter than my vendetta2 fan. I am not saying it is a bad fan, it is quiet and moves air, but I am disappointed because it is not any better than the fan that came with my vendetta 2.

So, I installed these 2 Noctua fans on the top and bottom of CM690, it probably give me 2-3 degrees improvement in the cpu temp, but it has a bit more noise, hardly worthwhile.

Too, bad, since I cannot return these fans. Restocking fee and postage will not give me much back.

@MpG: 4.2 GHz on air is very good indeed. Right, I am not comfy with 82c, so I am not going to try. But, I would like to join the 4Ghz club, so, maybe I'll gather up some strength to try it out.
