Default Help with ocz vendetta2 on i7 rig

I'm quite new to the heatsink world, so i decided to work with an ocz vendetta 2 for my i7 rig, however it was too confusing for me (mostly because i wasn't sure what i was doing half the time) and i hit rock bottom.

After mounting the heatsink and fan for about 4 hours, the temps are still ..the same!
45 on idle and about 75 on full load. I'm worried i mounted it wrong, and now the computer just locks up randomly or while on load (whole screen stays still, and NOTHING moves)

Any ideas on what went horribly wrong? thanks in advance!

*edit* the instructions from the packaging for the LGA1366 attachment wasn't very discriptive in my case..i hope i didn't do anything wrong..

You have it facing the wrong way.

Fan should be blowing to rear of case.

How did you apply TIM? For HDT heatsinks is a particular procedure.

No need to change orientation, you have exhaust fan on top, so it sucks hot air nicely. Vendetta 2 is a killer heat sink, you should be in 30s on idle, have you applied thermal paste between CPU and bottom of heat sink? It's a substance that transfers heat from processor to cooler itself.

I've got mine blowing out the top and it does seem to help the temps a bit.

I also have mine blowing the hot air out to the top, accidently i made my rear fan blow air in...it dropped my temps by 2c so i was like uhh...OK!

Best orientation is through to the back of the case. Make sure your fan is pointed the right way, blowing through the heatsink. Reseat if you have to.
