Default Best HSF for a P2 955?

Hey guys,

I want to push my 955 as far as I can on air.

What would be my best bet?

I'm looking at the TRUE black edition right now, other choices would be Noctua and Prolimatech.

What do you guys think? It would be in a HAF 932 or ATSC 840.

Which fans (I'd prefer a push/pull) should I slap on there.

I'm sick of my lawn mower stock AMD HSF 4000 rpm fan right now....

Thx guys!

I have a Noctua U12P on a Phenom2 955 using the fan that it came with it. I don't get to see it anymore as my father just picked it up from me today, but my experience was that it's very quiet. The TRUE 1366 that went on my sisters i7 920 was also nice, haven't used the black edition though. And as for the Prolimatech's be aware you almost have to get them imported from the US.

My fans are usually turned down using my fan controller. I've been using Yate Loons recently, but whatever is a good deal and quiet are usually my deciding factors.

I'm currently benching the CM Hyper 212+ on a 720be (3 cores OC'd) with the stock fan and I have to say that I'm gobsmacked by the #s I'm seeing in comparison to my 220 rad Push/Pull WC.

I'm sure it's not the absolute best air cooler out there, but the fact that it performs this well with the included stock fan, and can be purchased for slightly over $30 really has me questioning why anybody would pay more than twice that amount for a cooler without a fan. At best you might squeeze an extra 2 or 3 degrees under heavy load.

Here's the installation guide I did on the same motherboard as you're currently running (there's some naked HSF shots if you're looking for sexy.... :) ).

Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus AMD Installation & Clearance

As far as how loud it is.... I'm not the person to ask. 27 years of working around aircraft has made me immune to most issues along that line, but I will say that for a stock 2K rpm fan it's not bad at all. Also, for $35 you'd be able to purchase whatever fan(s) you wanted and still come in under what a higher end cooler would cost sans fans.

edit: Here's the full review AkG did a few weeks back......

Yes I'm very shallow when it comes to heatsinks

Alright, how about the stock fan with the Hyper 212+ and the stock fan on the AMD HSF? ... sound wise I mean.

Seems quieter to me, but then again I'm running a total of 15 1350 YLs within 2 feet of each other so it's kinda hard to tell.......

edit: I also only ran the stock cooler for a total of 24 hours so I didn't have much of a chance to build up a good impression of it's sonic signature.
