Thanks for keeping us updated stoanee. I've got some more #s to put up, but I've got to wait until the current heatwave is over so that I can post up some comparison #s to the stock fan. I've got a ton of #s for 1350 YLs & 2000 RPM 38mm Scythes, but those #s won't mean squat until I can get some #s from the stock fans at an abient at least close to what the ambient was when I tested them. (Temp's supposed to drop back down to seasonal next week).

Without any further ado, here's the final #s I came up with for different configurations of fans. Please keep in mind (as per the note on the charts) that these #s were taken at much lower ambient temps, and thus cannot be directly compared to the charts I put up previously.

Sorry these took so long to get up, but we had a heatwave roll through before I had a chance to record the stock fan temps at the lower ambient temp.

I didn't include push/pull results for 50% RPM Scythe, but for those interested, the max OC #s were Peak Load / 45.5c and Idle / 24c.

Testing Methodology
Hardware:
MSI 790FX-GD70
AM3 720be (3 cores for now)
2X2 Gig OCZ PC3 12800
PCP & C 750W Silencer
XFX GTX 280
Modified Highspeed Techstation (open testbed)

Coolers:
CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus w/ Stock Fan (2000 RPM)

Comparison Fans:
Stock CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus w/ Stock Fan (2000 RPM)

Yate Loon 1350 RPM D12SL-12

Scythe Ultra-Kaze 2000 RPM DFS123812L (38mm higher(er) static pressure fan) 100% = 2024 50% = 1072

All testing was done on an open test bed in conditions as closely matched as possible. Ambient temp was 24.5c +/- .5. Themal compound was IC Diamond and applied using manufacturer's recommended method (Pea Size Blob in middle of CPU). After boot, Idle temps were allowed to settle for 5 minutes prior to running test. Listed temps are Peak / Valley recorded by OCCT during a 1/2 hour custom OCCT normal blend. Listed voltages for various OC settings match those set in Bios.

Note: These tests were done on different days without the ability to completely control temps. Temps were within the stated "24.5c +/- .5" but in fairness, the stock fan ambient temps were at the low end of that, and the Scythe fan temps were at the high end.

OC settings were as follows:
Stock: CPU=2800 / CPU Vid (coretemp)=1.325V / CPU Vcore (CPU-Z)=1.312

Mid Level OC: CPU=3125 / CPU Vid (coretemp)=1.45V / CPU Vcore (CPU-Z)=1.480

High Level OC: CPU=3660 / CPU Vid (coretemp)=1.4875V / CPU Vcore (CPU-Z)=1.584

Man just one note, you cannot have core temps below ambient on air.

It's actually quite common for motherboard / cpu combos to display idle temps below ambient temps. Out of my last 4 motherboards, 3 out of 4 did so. That said, thanks for pointing that out, I made comment on it for the last set of charts, but forgot to mention it on these.

I found the fan provided with the 212+ to be quite good, much better than your standard supplied fan. (ziggy for example) It is nice to see how fan quality and quantity affect temps, thanks for the charts sswilson !

Those temps are fubared. For me it's hard to believe that in OCCT you have peak load 3C above ambient at stock.
Those on i7 above looks more real.

Are those ambient / core deltas?

Nope, no deltas. Those are the core temps recorded by OCCT. You know my luck when it comes to recorded temps SKY.... :) .

Now if folks would like the #s better, I can lie about what I get in OCCT and add 8C to every # to come up with something that starts off at/above ambient, but I'd rather not fudge my numbers. ;)

Hello all,

I have a brand new i7 920 D0 on an eVGA X58 SLI LE mobo with a Hyper 212+ running Scythe Slip Stream 1900RPM in push/pull facing the rear of the case (East/West if you like).

My OC settings are pretty well set as follows:

190 X 19 for 3.8 Ghz
vCore hangs about 1.26v
VTT about 1.33

My house is central air conditioned set to 23 Deg C ambient and the room I am in hangs pretty close to that + or - a degree.

I ran OCCT for 7 hours on a large data set to test CPU and Memory and here are the pngs that OCCT spits out.

I also ran a 15 min Linpack through OCCT and here are the numbers:

I wasn't sure how long to do linpacks as I read it is really hard on the system and not always a good indication of stability but will heat it up fast and hard.

I am willing to run other tests for the curious on request

I plan on doing the i7-920 jump in a few weeks, funds permitting. Assuming my case has good airflow, would this cooler be decent enough for my purposes? I have no plans to overclock it beyond the 3.4 range, which I know you could probably do on stock, but I'ld rather be a little more cautious.
